Heat: Poor, Miserable People

Spotted yesterday in a garage off SE Morrison: A poor chap, drenched in sweat, splitting firewood, then loading it in a wheelbarrow and wheeling it across the blazing asphalt parking lot to be used in the wood-fired oven at Nostrana. Performing this Sisyphean task again and again.

I really feel for this guy. At least most of us are lucky enough to be somewhere dim and still, if not cool.

I ate dinner at Nostrana last night, thoroughly enjoying a delicious cocktail, shared appetizer, pasta dish, and shared dessert. In between courses I took photos of my son tossing pizza dough into the air in front of the wood-fired oven. I said, “Y’all must be hot there, in front of that oven.” He said, “You shoulda seen me splitting firewood earlier, Mama. My shirt was soaked front and back.” So, you can understand my amazement when I read your post just now! Let me just say this so you won’t worry too much about him–he was raised in Mississippi, so he’s worked outside in worse and realizes the importance of staying hydrated and getting the job done as quickly as possible.
