I have good news and bad news.
First, the bad news.
Fireworks went on sale today, so the stench of burning cordite and other sulfurous fumes will be with us for a couple of weeks, at least. All that pop-pop-popping in the distance may or may not be gunfire. God, I love Felony Flats.
The good news? If you want to shoot someone, no one will notice until they find the body! Okay, that’s not really the good news, and please don’t shoot each other, mmmkay?
The good news is that along with all the usual 4th of July fun, it’s less than two weeks until the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival. That’s right, for five days everyone in town is a blues fan and authority on the subject. Which is cool, but remember guys and gals, blues musicians live 24-7-365/366, and could use your lovin’ more than one week a year.
I’m sure we’ll be talking more about this as it gets closer. Time to dig out your dancing shoes…

I remember July 4, 1999. One of the many, many neighbors who hated the recently installed animated sign at NE 28th and Broadway went out in the middle of the night and shot it.
I noticed yesterday that 4 or 5 boats were already anchored in place waiting for the festival. After my initial envy and bitterness towards those who have large boats and much free time, I thought, “Cool!”.
Woo hoo! Vancouver’s cool for a couple weeks because you can come over here and blow things up (more legally than you can in Oregon)….
Jack,
Have you checked the statute of limitations on that shooting? Maybe we can start giving credit where it’s due…
