I admit it, I have a bit of a girl crush. I just bought a new book by Ivy Manning, local food journalist and contributor to Willamatte Week, the Oregonian’s FoodDay, Edible Portland, Sunset, Cooking Light – the list goes on.

The Farm to Table Cookbook

Her book, The Farm to Table Cookbook: The Art of Eating Locally, features local favorites such as Marco Shaw from Fife, Vitaly Paley of Paley’s Place, and Jason Owens of Simpatica.

This is the type of book I drool over, anxiously reading every page to find out where local chefs shop for their food. Portland is extremely lucky to have as many vendors as we do selling amazing produce, cheeses, breads, wines, etc. so close to home. I was especially interested to read that Marco Shaw of Fife meets with his produce vendor in the winter to look through seed catalogs. He gets to choose what the vendor will grow for the restaurant—how cool is that?

Chef Ivy has also introduced me (well, not her, but her Web site) to my new favorite place to visit on the Web—Culinate.com. Not only is Culinate based in Portland, but Epicurious named their newsletter one of the “Top 5 Food Newsletters.” I have signed up for it and am eager to get the first copy.

If you are a lover of food or just want some great recipes from local chefs, I highly recommend both Ivy’s book and Culinate.
