Or, Everything you ever wanted to know about Portland, but were afraid to find out.
I just stumbled across the website city-data.com, which has a collection of statistics on a number of American cities. My suspicion is that this is primarily of use to real estate agents, but I could be wrong.
In any event, I found the page for Portland very interesting. Although most of the data is 1-4 years old, it’s nevertheless useful for examining trends, and in comparison with other populations.
For instance, check out this plot of yearly precipitation:

There’s a lot of talk about how global warming doesn’t just increase the temperature a bit, it increases the severity of weather swings — wet gets wetter, dry gets dryer, hot gets hotter, cold gets colder.
Perhaps we’ll see the over all US trend shift towards our pattern, as spring comes earlier, and summers last a little longer?
shhhhhhhh! don’t break from the party line, “It Rains A Lot Here.”
@McAngryPants –
Actually, this year, it had! I didn’t think spring would ever get here, and now it’s summer!
Not that I’m complaining. I was born in Silverton; I’m an Oregon native. You can get me sick of the rain … but it takes a lot of rain!
