Hey you, yeah you standing there seething in the TSA line at Portland. Yep, gotta take your laptop out. Oh, and the power supply. Lastly, your shoes. Wearing sandals? Sorry, gotta walk where everyone else has barefoot because we don’t have the footies anymore. And we are taking your toothpaste away because it is 3.2 ounces. Want water once your on the plane? That will be $2.
Frustrated yet? Well, there may be a solution. SeaPort Airlines opened their doors today. I first learned of them because they sponsored this mornings Morning Edition on OPB. Thankyou SeaPort for sponsoring OPB. SeaPort is offering 90 minute downtown to downtown Portland/Seattle flights. There business model is to compete against Alaska and Horizon because SeaPort won’t force you through the TSA morass. They fly from Portland to Boing Field in Seattle. From Boing Field, you are only 10 minutes from downtown.
I used to fly regularly to Seattle for day trips. It was so simple. I would arrive at the airport around 5:45am, be on the plane @ 6:05am and at my office by 7:45am. I had a laptop with computer tools. Today, that single trip would take me 3+ hours and require me either to have duplicate tools in Seattle or check a bag. If I was still travelling, I think I would check out SeaPort.

This is great news! I usually take the train but sometimes need to get there sooner and it often feels like a trade-off with the long airport waits.
BTW, congrats on the new site. Looks very promising!
