Although the 22 new vehicles arrived last month, TriMet’s new MAX trains will be hitting the tracks in the Fall. While the new trains will allow for a few more folks to squeeze on board, the number of on-board bike racks will remain the same.

The new trains, built by Siemens, are the S70/Avanto model and are used domestically in Houston, San Diego, Charlotte and, internationally, in Paris.

TriMet highlights more space and additional seating with these new models. Too bad they weren’t ready to be rolled out in time for the upcoming July 4 holiday.

unfortunately, the new trains don’t increase space for bikes – just 4 hooks per car, like the current ones have.

Got a peek of the new max on my way home the other night – it was passing through Orenco Station. Really looks cool! And I love the Blue light on the front . . . I hope that is meant to indicate the type of service (blue, red, yellow, green). It is next to impossible to identify trains approaching stops/stations until they are close due to the proximity and intensity of the light above the destination placard on the front.

Can hardly wait to see these babies riding the rails!
