Peterson’s evicted by unanimous vote

Doug Peterson needs to vacate his flagship Morrison Street store by August 15, 2008 after all. KGW’s got the videotape here, but I can’t find any other written coverage elsewhere. From what I’ve heard, though:

  • While Mayor Potter was quick to speak up on camera afterwards, the rest of the commissioners were mostly silent during the discussion/vote.
  • However, there’s speculation that our soon-to-be-Mayor has played an, um, active role behind the scenes aiding and abetting the anti-Peterson’s cause

Based on what I’m reading (and yes, I freely admit I’m biased in favor of Doug Peterson and his employees), does anyone (save for the city commissioners themselves) think that Peterson got a fair shake? Anyone?

Or was the deck stacked against them a long, long time ago?

I stopped by the 4th Avenue store about 10 PM, and the young man who testified before city council was working. Morale is low at Peterson’s, very low. Some workers have begun interviewing elsewhere, and one has quit outright. Geno, the city council speaker, has been putting in crazy hours building websites, doing ‘net research and making short films and media presentations. All that to have five middle fingers pointed at him and his co-workers this morning.

I wish there was a way to have voting do-overs…

Real people aren’t wanted in Portland any more. It’s all about Brooks Brothers and other corporate crap paying rent to guys like Tom Moyer. “Progressive” City Council, my eye.

No it is about stupid ass liberals taking over in Portland and Oregon. Time to move out and let the freaks take over

Peterson’s got screwed. Our city council is an embarrassment. It is five white guys who have no clue what kind of city ordinary people want. Jack is right, “Real people aren’t wanted in Portland any more.”

How odd. I’m generally considered to be a “stupid ass liberal” and I think this is a horrible decision.

Clarification: I don’t believe there was an actual vote about the eviction. It’s an administrative issue in a bureau Mayor Tom Potter heads up. There wasn’t anything about it on yesterday’s council agenda, so the other four commissioners don’t have much say in the matter.

Why does the store have anything to do with the actions of a various selection of Portland/Beaverton/Hillsboro scumbags that hang out in front of the store waiting on the Max? Did I miss how the store is supposed to be responsible for that?
