Fat Fancy...this way

One weekend a month, a basement on a residential street in NE Portland turns into a place where plus-size women and men can shop for vintage and new-to-you clothing and shoes.

After knowing about Fat Fancy for months, I finally made it over this afternoon to check out the “store.” The women running the shop rent out a basement/garage space on the last Saturday and Sunday each month for their store, which carries dresses, tops, coats, skirts, shoes, and accessories.

Fat Fancy, which features size 12 and up, was recently featured in BUST magazine in an article on plus-size vintagewear.

Despite being in a small space, they pack a lot of items in there and even have two dressing rooms. For $22, I walked out with a very cute skirt and a lingerie top that I can craft into something for a night out. The prices are quite good and you can also contribute items to get store credit.

The store, located at 834 NE Emerson, will be open again on Sunday, August 31 from 12PM – 5PM. After that, you’ll have to wait until September 27-28 for another chance to shop.
