Today I saw one. I probably saw others, but today’s took the cake. I’m not trying to be mean or judgemental. This individual was a plain old chucklehead.
I was walking to coffee across the intersection (I had a walk sign) when I saw a rather well put together woman begin to cross against the walk sign going the other way. When she got about 1/3 across, she realized cars were coming fast and did the “two step back-two step foward” move but sped up to cross the intersection right into the path of a fast moving bicyclist. The cars were screeching to a halt and the bike was swerving to miss the lady. I was standing there watching this all when I realized the woman was talking on her cell phone the whole damn time.
I almost caught up with her and told her how stupid she was, but then I remembered that it isn’t my place to save people from being a proud member of the Darwin Awards.

Saw a bicyclist on SE Grand blow through a red light at SE Taylor, a superbusy intersection, today. I was a passenger in the car that had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting him. I honestly thought he was a goner. No cell phone, but the young guy mistakenly thought he should/could sneak across the intersection against the signal. More grist for the anti-cyclists out there (the driver was understandably upset). Fair is fair, cyclists, let’s share the road responsibly and not stupidly challenge the 3,000 pound vehicles please.
I LOVE Portland, but Portland pedestrians are scariest around. I’ve had so many people just walk out in front of my car in the middle of a block (sans crosswalk).
Seriously annoying behavior.
“Kill them all and let God sort them out”! I have no use for stupid people. Stupid people are the reason this planet is in the condition it is in today!
If you run out in front of me, I’m going to run your ass over….no questions about it….so stay the hell out of my way!
BTW….my three year old baby’s favorite quote is “Beep, Beep…Get outta my way…I’m gonna run you over”!….her other one is “Fifty-fifty in a parking lot”!
Too bad I don’t live in Portland….the streets would be so much safer for the cars that travel down them!
@Road Rage King! – Oh, I understand…you are insane. Awesome lessons for the child’s future behavior, at that.
