Smoke from three-alarm fire in SE PDX

As I stood at the bus stop on NW 21st and Savier earlier this evening, I saw a huge thick plume of smoke off in the distance.

It wasn’t until I got home that I saw there was a three-alarm fire in SE Portland at the Empire Rubber & Supply Co. Hopefully, there was no one in the building.

Normally, I’d have been right in the thick of things – the fire’s location is mere blocks from my office.

But I snuck out early to meet a friend for happy hour in NW – and despite seeing all of the reports on Twitter of smoke sightings from Sunset & 185th on the west side and Oregon City past 217 on the east side, well – we never *could* see the smoke.

I snapped a few photos on my way over to CubeSpace this afternoon.

Holy crap! I park my car by that building every single day – except yesterday, that is.

In fact, I’m parked across the street from the hulking remains today…
