Yesterday, I needed something new for lunch. Earlier in the week I had ran into a fellow pie eater from last weekend and she recommended Ziba’s Pita’s up off 10th and Alder downtown. Everyone knows about “The Pod” on SW 4th with all the amazing food cart choices. Well, they are replicating that up off 10th and Alder with Peruvian, Whole Bowl, Ziba’s Pitas and even a Japanese place.
Wow, the choices for amazing cart food keep growing.
Ziba’s Pita’s are not the Pitas you would think of (honestly, I had walked by many times thinking it was like Pita Pit or something.) It is a Bosnian dish. The Pita’s are a baked phyllo dough surrounding tasty meat goodness. I chose to get the BUREK or Meat pita with beef, onions, potatoes and spices. Wow, first of all the portion was huge. Secondly, it was some tasty food. I am one to eat a little too fast and not enjoy my food. Yesterday, I chewed slowly to take in all the flavors.
If you’re up there , check out Ziba’s Pita’s. I was told they get a line, but I swung by around noon and was served very promptly.

Yay Ziba’s. I’d never heard of Bosnian pita before I found this cart, but they’re delicious.
Yeah, I love Ziba’s Pitas. The lady there is very nice, and the food very good.
I work close to the “pod” on SW 5th, but I wish I could get to the Alder carts and back in a timely manner. There’s a lot of good food up there (including the Samurai Japanese cart).
Dang, that looks good.
That picture looked so good I walked right over for lunch.
Yum.
My only recommendation: There was a whole lotta meat in my meat pita. She’ll do a half & half plate — get half meat & half spinach or veggie!
Also, the pita was crazy good when I slathered the red bell pepper sauce all over the top of it. The platter is well worth it.
I LOVE Ziba’s pitas. I had my first “in situ” in 2001 at the weekly market in Trogir, Croatia, specifically the cheese version. My husband and daughter had the meat version. We’ve never forgotten them. How amazing they should now be offered in Portland.
We are so damn lucky with the food carts in this town. And in my opinion, Ziba’s is at the top of it all. She stopped opening on Saturdays, so I’m lucky that my new job is close enough to go there on a weekday.
