This morning’s commute to the office provided an interesting diversion. As I waited for the second bus of my commute on NE Multnomah, I couldn’t help but notice a Knife River load sitting in the middle of the street. “Well, that’s an odd place to leave a bunch of dirt,” I thought.
A few minutes later, a police cruiser pulls up with its lights flashing. The car sat there for a while, then Huge Hunky Cop emerged from the car. Seriously, I didn’t know they still made those. (While I was tempted to take a photo, I didn’t want to draw attention to myself. Pay no attention to the girl at the bus stop!)
Anyway…
HHC walked around the load, perhaps looking for a phone number, tag, or some other sort of identification. He then returned to his car and drove in front of the load. “Nah, he’s not going to attach that to the cruiser, is he?” I thought. He didn’t. Instead, he just sat there in his car, lights still flashing.
At this point, I realize my bus is hella-late (as usual), but am enjoying this little scene before me. A couple more minutes pass and lo and behold, a Knife River truck pulls up to retrieve the lost load. My bus arrived about a minute later and we were both on our merry ways.

Was the police just there to make sure nothing odd happned or do you think he just wanted to ticket the guy?
I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was both. That load was parked in a designated turn lane, so that’s probably worthy of a ticket.
