Theoretically, everyone gets fifteen minutes of fame. (I’ve still got about 14:50 of mine!) In the blogging world, fame and recognition come from interesting sources. Search engines bring people to the blogs, and an off-the-beaten-path topic can bring a continuous stream of folks who wouldn’t normally be looking at you.

For example, our beloved Betsy cannot burp. (It’s not something you’d notice.) She wrote a post about finally getting one out, (I witnessed the event; thanks Russell St Barbecue!) and it has been a steady stream of blog traffic since. She even had to create a special forum to handle the traffic. Irp, excuse me.

My golden goose? I once wrote a post about Mark Kay Irvin, the spokeswoman for SleepCountry USA Mattress Company. Lonely guys everywhere rallied behind me, uh, let me rephrase that, I got tons of hits wondering who she was, and where she went after they changed spokesmodels. A lot of people still miss Mary Kay.

And now OurPDX friend Steve has found a hit source, thanks to the Republican Party. It was either incredible foresight or plain-ass dumb luck, but Sarah Palin’s presence in the political world has been a boon for him. His site? More Hockey Less War.

Get your bumper stickers, buy a shirt, and say hi to Steve and Wacky Mommy.

Thanks for the shout, Charlie.

I should have been all over this crap with merch the day Palin was announced, but I’m too wrapped up in school politics to design new stickers and shirts.

The funny thing is that the bumper sticker preceded the blog of the same name by a couple years (adapted from a sign my son carried at a 2004 anti-war rally at the beginning of the 2004-05 NHL lockout).

It figures that my two seconds of fame on NPR is about the sticker, not the blog. Ah, well, 14:58 to go. Maybe Joe Biden will give me a plug tonight.
