Garbage and recycling is piled high throughout the city after two weeks of no collection.

Garbage and recycling is piled high throughout the city after two weeks of no collection.

You see, I had an entire post planned about how annoyed I was that it seemed as if the city’s garbage contractors put no effort into making it through the winter weather. It had all the tough stuff argumentative posts are made of. Buy some chains! Make an effort, everyone else did.

Then as I went out to take a picture, I saw the neighborhood kids making an igloo, and I softened a bit. I mean, it snowed, right? A lot. We should just let it be, calm down and enjoy it. Garbage and recycling bins can overflow. We’ll all survive another week of piled upon garbage.

And according to fellow OurPDX.net writer Betsy Richter, they’ll take the extra garbage and recycling next week for no charge (but your collection may be a day late). Pile it nicely, please.

Forget garbage. Build an Igloo!

Forget garbage. Build an Igloo!

Peace, love, and happiness. And all I want for Christmas is for someone-to-pick-up-my-garbage-and-recycling. Oh, and to watch the neighborhood kids build an igloo.

What do you think? Does the fact that a Honda Civic can make it up your street but the garbage collector can’t irritate you?

Or, are you of the mind that you’d rather not have a huge truck slide into your parked car? Comments are welcome, as always.

Update: According to the Oregonian, your garbage will be picked up on time this week, unless you have a Thursday or Friday pick up, in which case, it will be a day late because of the holiday. Oh, and no refunds, but pile up your garbage and recycling at no extra charge.

It’s your fault- you provoked me to go outside with a camera. I took pictures of the garbage in our downtown apartment complex:
