Last Friday evening, we decided to hit up Urban Farmer in The Nine’s hotel to celebrate Repeal Day. I had read in the WWeek that they were offering Repeal Day happy hour specials showcasing their house moonshine. Who could pass that up?

Urban Farmer is a pretty interesting place. I honestly can’t describe it other than it reminded me of a location from a movie set from NYC or LA. The only reason I say that is the whole 8th floor where the restaurant and bar are is open space going up 5 stories or so. There are some walls and partitions, but in general, everything is open, which I liked. Another feature is these semi-private rooms within the space. Imagine a space 12′ x 12′ with glass and drapes on 2 sides and entryways on the other two sides. Inside are leather chairs and ottomans. That was where we sat. Honestly, I felt like a pimp holding court as people walked by and stared at us, envious of our seats.

I enjoyed moonshine with a beer back for $3. A little shot of moonshine (made especially for Urban Farmer by House Spirits in SE Portland) and then a coffee cup of Roots IPA. So nice and just what I needed. My partner’s in the evening enjoyed other drinks as well and there were no complaints. We even had a visit from the Cheese steward. We got a plate of a few different unique cheeses that were truly amazing. How could you top that?

If you get a chance, check out Urban Farmer. It is a steakhouse and is pretty expensive for dinner (from what I have heard,) but you could still enjoy a nice cocktail or beer and inexpensive food during happy hour which runs daily from 3-6pm.
