Did you know that our beloved state is turning 150 this year? And on Valentine’s Day, no less!

If you love Oregon, show your sweetie how much by driving to Salem for the official celebration of Oregon’s Birthday on Valentines Day. Word is they’ll have a giant 6-tiered cake for 3,000 guests, blacksmithing, wagon wheel demonstrations and you can get your picture with the Gold Pioneer (isn’t he on TOP of the Capitol? Wonder how they’ll pull that one off?).

That night, you have your choice of bashes, one in Portland at the Treasury Ballroom and one in Salem, where the Governor will be celebrating.

I think my favorite part of the celebration of Oregon’s 150th Birthday (outside of the big cake, of course) is the Oregon Stories part of their website where you can submit your Oregon story. All forms of expression are welcome, from photographs to poetry and prose. Speaking of prose, remember this great Oregon story from mediaChick?

Also, look for Take Care of Oregon Days this May, where you can volunteer to help out in the state we all call home.

The Oregon 150 folks point out that Oregon is big, 98,466 square miles to be exact, which is why they’re encouraging everyone to go see the state with featured road trips (coming soon) and travel tips around Oregon. Me? I’m finally going to go see Crater Lake!

A Valentine for Oregon’s Birthday, anyone?

I’d better start planning how I’m going to celebrate 150 years of beaver and webbed feet jokes. =)

Happy Birthday, Oregon! We loves ya!
