Here’s what we’ve found as we’ve traveled the local PDX web (complete with our comments) for March 30th:
- Elton John & Billy Joel Coming to Portland | PDX PIPELINE – "Tickets are priced at $177.00, $97.00 and $51.50. Tickets go on sale Saturday, April 4th at 10a and can be purchased at the Rose Quarter Box Office (M-F 10a-5p), all participating Safeway/ Tickets West outlets, by calling 877.789.ROSE (7673), or at ComcastTIX.com. For more information please visit RoseQuarter.com. Prices do not include service charges. (editor’s note: #*%Y)@@)@**? Really?) To receive event notices, pre-sale opportunities, discounts and prizes join our free Rose Quarter CyberClub at RoseQuarter.com."
Now, feel free to close your eyes and come up with your own personal rant about high-priced concert tickets in a down economy, won’t you? (Or as one commenter said on the original post: “They couldn’t give us a little more time before tickets go on sale? Like, so we can actually come up with some money?” You GO, kmcdade!)
- Taqueria Lindo Michoacan | Food Carts Portland – Last week's commute to spring break camp for my kid had me passing this cart twice daily. Lordy, I wish I would have carved out some time to stop…!
- PDX Critique » Blog Archive » Cover Letters, Resumes and Interviews Oh My! (Part 1) – For the month of April, PDX Critique will be sharing advice about resumes, cover letters, and putting yourself in the best possible light. From this recent post:
“While you’re waiting for the phone call, or better before you send that cover letter be sure to search yourself. What can you find under your first and last name? First, last and university? Kegger pics? Call the frat and see if they can’t take them down for a few months unless you’re looking for work in a brewery. What about email? Huh, funny you forgot that spaceyCat978 on livejournal and myspace was hooked into the same email you use for contacting future employers…” (As a hiring manager myself, truer words were never spoken…!)
- WWire | Northwest 23rd Avenue Gets Depressed – Ben Waterhouse reports: ” counted 19 vacancies between Burnside and Thurman, most of them recent. Given the lousy state of the local economy, we can probably expect to see more.” Click through to see the photos…
- Portland Mercury – Blogtown, PDX | Saltzman: Leonard’s Made In Oregon Sign Idea "Absurd," "Bullying"; Fritz: "It Might Be Illegal."
Oh, my – mild-mannered city councilman Dan Saltzman’s developed a backbone: “Is this really the most pressing issue for the city at this point?” asks Saltzman. “When we're cutting back on personnel and resources, we're at the same time talking about finding half a million dollars from somewhere. It creates low morale, and I've had several people in the city tell me that. It creates low morale.”

This may be the only time in my life something I am directly associated with is mentioned with Billy Joel and Elton John. Awesome.
Thanks for the press Betsy.

RE: Billy Joel & Elton John concert — I’m admittedly biased, but for the cost of one of the top-tier tickets, which would likely cost around $200 with the service fees included, one could go to over a dozen shows featuring local bands in a smaller, more intimate setting. I’d rather support the local bands in this economy.
I’m a huge Elton John fan, and I won’t pay big dollars to see an arena show myself!
