Here’s what we’ve found as we’ve traveled the local PDX web (complete with our comments) for March 7th:
- Simplicity isn’t that Simple | Wonks R Us – Eva wants to help small businesses in Portland stay afloat in these challenging economic times: "I would like to to make an offer to you, my readers. I will continue to post links and information about both state and federal stimulus opportunities as I learn about them so that there will be at least one one-stop resource page for the information Portland’s small businesses need. In exchange, I ask that when you learn about an opportunity or resource that you do not yet see on this blog, please add it to the comments." I love Portland because Portland is a city that values community. Please share the link to this blog with your fellow-business-owners, neighbors, family and friends. I want to help local businesses prosper in this challenging time. Local business owners and employees are part of our community, and I strongly believe that if we work together, we can weather this storm.
- Portland Transit Tips | Dave Knows Portland – I can attest to Dave's wisdom here (I have a 15 year old who is often obnoxious and/or loud, ugh):
"If your bus goes by a high school or middle school, avoid riding when school is getting out. The kids are obnoxious and loud. I don’t mean this in a “you kids get off my lawn” sense. The kids really are obnoxious and loud and rude. Teenagers are, naturally, beginning to learn social etiquette and boundaries. They have a lot to learn. And your bus trip will be unpleasant if they are on the bus in large numbers."

- Dining Well in Portland on a Barista Salary | An Exploration of Portland Food and Drink – Food Dude gives you yet another reason (or three) to drop some dimes or quarters on places like Meat Cheese Bread. Yes, even in today's economy…!
- Fly away! Be free! Shizzow launches from Portland nest in preparation for SXSW Interactive | Silicon Florist – How meta – I'm watching Ryan Snyder & Dawn Foster from Shizzow on Strange Love Live now in one window, while I read about the Shizzow national launch over on Silicon Florist. Plus – local APIs from local people (@crunchysue, @wajiii, @petercowan and @donpdonp, for starters…)
- Spring is Showing Up Around the Edges | Rabbi David Kominsky – Some great spring photos from Rabbi David's walk to work. Pssst…Rabbi David: The "muppety" flowers look like witch hazel to me (anyone want to verify?), while the reddish buds are daphne, which will smell absolutely heavenly when they open up a bit more. Trust me on this one. Best. Spring. Scent. EVER!
Note – I’ve resuscitated the link posts (which went dormant after the death of Ma.gnolia) & will be resuming them on a fairly regular basis since we’ve heard they were missed!
