Oregon Live is reporting that GI Joe’s sports and auto store might be going the way of the dodo bird. I am extremely bummed out by this. I was a little perplexed when they sold the chain in 2007 and dropped “GI” from the name. Whatever, at least they didn’t make major changes to the merchandise selection. I love GI Joe’s. I’ve spent thousands of dollars there. Row after row of gadgets and gizmos for people who like to fish and work on cars.
My grandpa used to say, “Ten percent of lures are designed to catch fish. The rest are designed to catch fishermen.”
Slack-jawed and drooling, I wander aimlessly down the aisles, looking at all the stuff and dreaming about the gigantic fish that I’m going to catch. I’ve bought many lures that are still in plastic wrappers — they just sit there gathering dust until I might need them. Now they’ve gone and wrecked it for me. Oh well, at least there is still Fisherman’s Marine.
Who else is bummed out by this? This is really going to put a damper on my springtime fishing gear buying sprees.
