I got an email from our friends at the Portland Opera the other day letting me know about an upcoming event.  Fred Meyer Broadway Across America is bringing the production of  award winning RENT to Portland next week, June 23-28.  RENT is based on the Puccini opera La Boheme which opens The Portland Opera’s 09/10 season in September.  The original director, Jonathan Larsen, who died just before RENT opened, wanted there to be affordable tickets available for every show and this tradition has held. There will be a select number of $20 front row seats the day of each show.  Tickets go on sale at Keller Auditorium 2 hours before each show and there is a limit of 2 per person.  This is a great chance to see an amazing performance on the cheap.  All it will cost you is a little time in line and $20.

Will they be handling the sales lottery-style like they did with the limited view seats for Wicked, or is this first come, first serve?

JustinS, I asked and the tickets won’t be lottery-style, but first come first served. Thanks.

I’ve seen this show front-row due to these tickets a few years back – totally worth waiting out front of the theater in a little line all day!!

Did anyone do this last night or today? Just wondering how long the line is, etc.

Jmartens,
Yes, I attended last night. I arrived at around 6:45 and the $20 tickets were already gone. I did overhear people stating they had been there since 8am that morning for said tickets.

I wonder if there is a public webcam anywhere in the vicinity that would let us know how long the line is.

Wish they’d do lottery like in NYC. But better and a little fairer so those of us who work. Saw it from the front row twice in NYC and there’s nothing like it!
