You know how it is when you first move into a new house? Couldn’t find anything. Wanted to get rid of everything. And then one day, in the form of the Laurelhurst Neighborhood Newsletter, came salvation: A neighborhood garage sale where they did all the advertising, hoards of people (apparently) came and I could get rid of all this (CENSORED)!
Well, the weimaraner was a 3 month old puppy then, and she was pretty darn cute. Underfoot part of the day, we put a sign up as a joke, “Pet the Dog, 25 Cents,” and let everyone fuss over her, and put a few quarters in the dog dish as seed money. Didn’t actually think anyone would pay to pet the dog. Really. I wasn’t paying much attention, and by time I realized that she was a new source of garage sale income, she’d made $8.25.
The dog is 11 now, and probably can’t pull off the cute puppy tricks she used to, but I’m hauling everything I possibly can out to the lawn this Saturday, June 20 (from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.) for the 24th Annual Laurelhurst Garage Sale. No, I’m not moving, just trying to get rid of all the (CENSORED) that has magically accumulated over the years.
There are more than 110 other families participating this year, and you’ll find all sorts of good stuff around the neighborhood. Stop by, won’t you?
