Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would know that Portland’s food cart scene is going gangbusters. We have “pods” of carts now in 4 distinct locations around the city with anywhere from 5 carts up to 20 carts per pod. And these aren’t all just hot dog vendors. We’re talking Thai, Egyptian, New Mexican, Czech, you name it. It seems like once a week something new and exciting is opening, offering Portlanders a rare opportunity to try new goodies on the cheep. Have you been to Whiffies? He makes fried pies – both savory and sweet.
VendrTV is in town doing a whole week of segments on Portland’s food carts. VendrTV is a web based video series highlighting unique street vendors and their delicious food! They travel around the states filming for the show. Last week they were in Seattle and this week, along with the sailors, are in Portland. Today they showcased Brunchbox, Ablya and Nuevo Mexico. I’ve chatted with Dan, the producer, prior to this visit and they would just love to have people come out to the carts while they are shooting. Their schedule as of today is posted on their Facebook page. Some highlights – Wednesday 8pm, Potato Champion in SE 12th and Hawthorne and Thursday 8pm – Whiffies at the same location.
I think everyone should head down to one of the carts on the list and welcome VendrTV to our wonderful town.
