I try not to talk about the weather, but there’s not a much bigger topic of conversation this week.
I’m lucky. I work in an air-conditioned building, ride an air-conditioned bus, and get home well after midnight. It’s almost bearable by that time, but fans and cold showers are still necessary.
Last night’s low temperature was the highest on record. (It didn’t cool down below 74 degrees.) The news is reporting that it’s 92 degrees at the airport right now, a few minutes past noon.
Those of you heading out to Cruefest 2, or just going outside for that matter, drink LOTS of water. Yes, plain old water. It may not be glamorous, but it will help keep you cool. It doesn’t have to be expensive, either. Our tap water is the best in the world, and sipping from the Benson Bubbler won’t hurt you, despite whom you may have seen spritzing off in them.
At our house, the critters are doing okay, but it’s interesting to watch them deal with the heat. We have six cats and a big dog, and they are sprawled out at various strategic spots. The cats like the air gaps under the doors to my room and the bathroom. The dog lays wherever there’s a breeze, usually right in the way. Kevin has discovered the kitchen fan, and is enjoying the heck out of airing his unmentionables in front of everybody. He’s now internet famous.
The good news? There’s a cold wave coming through! It could get down as low as 87 degrees this weekend. Bring a sweater…
