I know, all you want to do is hunker down in your basement in the cool with your fancy pants mojito. I challenge you to get out, sweat, and enjoy this wonderful July weekend.
Friday:
Sand in the City – if you are a downtown workerbee or are in the area, head to Pioneer Courthouse Square to see local companies compete to see who can build the best sandcastle. These creations are amazing and the event goes on all weekend. Who’ll do a Dave Chappelle caricature?
BeerAndBlog - more than just a bunch of geeks getting together and talking wordpress. I guarantee you there will be discussion about pork products and BBQ and some heavy drinking. This week is sponsored, so that means free beer…..
International Beer Fest - yep, more beer. Everyone wonders if we have too many beer festivals. Can you have too many? I know we have a beer festival at our place almost weekly….TMI TMI. This year’s International Beer Fest will showcase some amazing beers from every corner of the earth. You may even see men in skirts…oops, I mean kilts. No haggis though…
Saturday:
The Big Busk – throughout downtown Portland on Saturday afternoon and evening, a number of musicians and bands will be busking – showcasing their music on a street corner. The Big Busk is intended to have a musician on every corner in the city. I know I’ll be downtown off Broadway listening to Wizardboots perform around 6. Come on down.
Wizardboots and GhostWriter @ The World Famous Kenton Club – did you know that Racquel Welch filmed the 1972 classic “The Kansas City Bomber” in Portland and use to hang out at the Kenton Club in North Portland? Yep. True. Seriously. Really. Well, now that it is famous, Wizardboots was invited to play. Here’s yet another chance to hear the self described freakpop warlords along with “the original punk folk troubadour” GhostWriter. 10pm. Free.
Sunday
Portland Sunday Parkways – NE – yep, round two of operation take over the neighborhood with bikes, peds and skates. I rode in the first parkways of the summer her in North and had such a great time. The neighborhoods were out in force welcoming any and all riders, runners, bikers and unicyclists. The NE event is more of a loop with a few of the parks along the route offering up tons of activities for families and kids of all ages. Come on, dust off the bike and join us. We promise to say hi and wave.
Have a wonderful weekend.
