Here’s what we’ve found as we’ve traveled the local PDX web (complete with our comments) for October 28th:

  • If Criticism is Dead, Nobody Mourned « Steven Walling

Can you take a moment from mourning the lost art of print newspapering to spare some sympathy for the critic? Steven Walling thinks you should… “Most people these days know me as a Web geek, born and bred. But before I parlayed my writing skills (and nunchaku skills… bowhunting skills…) into the digital realm, I was A Critic. And as A Former Critic, I have a general observation to make: reporters are whiny. Yes, you heard me. You straight-laced, fair and balanced journalists are pretty obnoxious when it comes to wailing and moaning about saving your profession. Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing to bitch and moan at times like these. But I'd like to take this moment to remind you that you're not the only ones dying along with the print business. So please take a moment and hear me out.”

  • Dave Knows Portland site redesign | Dave Knows: Portland
Dave’s got a new ‘do – and he’d like you to come on by and admire it. Yes, even you, the one who’s already had Dave’s RSS feed in your reader forEVER:
“It’s still a work in progress, so you will see things change here and there over the next few weeks. I like to think it’s already more professional and clean looking than the old design. But I’m always open to suggestions, so leave a comment if you have any constructive criticism.” (Emphasis mine…)
  • Great American Distillers Festival, Portland, Oregon

Kenn Wilson has a lovingly illustrated and incredibly detailed write-up of the Great American Distillers Festival last week. Kenn – either @kchrist or @cocktailia on Twitter – is one of the lead organizers behind the still-in-its-infancy Cocktail Camp, so you know this isn’t just a hobby for him; more like a passion veering on obsession. If you, too, are spiritually-inclined, start tracking Kenn!/li>
