I suppose at some point it’s every kid’s fantasy to have their school burn down. (“But Maaaawmm, I don’t wanna go to school!”) Sometimes what sounds good in theory sucks in real life, as roughly 500 people found out this week. Marysville School in Southeast Portland caught fire during class the other day. All the kids and teachers got out okay, but the school is thrashed. Starting Monday, the students and teachers will begin class at Rose City Park School, but they need supplies.
KPTV’s Fox 12 News is trying to help. One of the mobile newsrooms is at the Fred Meyer store on SE 82nd and Foster. They are accepting donations of school supplies, cash, well-wishes, anything to help the displaced kids and teachers.
Reporters and anchors will be on-site throughout the evening until 11 PM tonight. Someone just handed Shauna Parsons a fistful of cash, and another gentleman has donated 25 backpacks.
I didn’t realize until I got home and started watching news coverage that I’d walked past meteorologist Mark Nelson. He looks much younger in person!
