SLL: Back with Brian Westbrook

Friday night we were joined by old friend of the show Brian M. Westbrook. He brought with him an armload of gadgets and wit, and was kind enough to share both with us during the Tech Edition. With a look at hand held cameras, headphones, hot new phones and digital picture frames with some unusual options you’re sure to find something to love.

Friday night we were joined in studio by Scott McCarty and the entire Locket2You team. While we chatted with Scott on the couch Miranda and MeaganKate kept everything in check from the sidelines.

During the Tech Edition we talked about the business end of Locket2You. Where, When Why and How they built their handmade jewelry company and used Twitter and other social internet tools to strengthen it and get the word out.

But afterhours was a whole different thing. A schtick was prepared a month ago and carried out in the first half of Afterhours, then there were the custom drinks I made for the occasion: The Locket, The Pocket, The Rocket and Big Purple. With the skit (featuring the voice talent of MeaganKate and Miranda) and drinks out of the way we got back to the business of afterhours and chatted our hour away.

With the holiday season fast approaching, you may have noticed we’re doing things a bit differently around SLL. We wanted to start celebrating early which is why this week we featured Locket2You (a great holiday gift solution, I’m just sayin) and next week we’ll be featuring some fantastic music with John and Clay. Then we’ll move on to gadgets with Brian M. Westbrook which will satisfy your craving for tech and give you a peek into what’s hot and techie for the holidays. Staying with that good for the holidays theme we’ll also be joined by Foodgeeks (get some holiday menu ideas) and Simler (because you need a new site to play on with all that Holiday downtime) in early December.

We’ll Round out the year with 30 Hour Day, a livestream telethon the likes of which the world has never seen, A Kaos family Christmas with my daddy, Daddy Kaos. Then we’ll kick off the new year with a review of 2009 and predictions for 2010 with Rick Turoczy. As you can see we’ve got a full plate for the next couple of months, I hope you’ll come along for the ride.

SLL: A Show with SparCKL

In Afterhours things got away from us a little, but before we got out of hand Curtis read his 512 Words or Fewer piece “The Wren and the Hen and the Men in the Pen”. Other than that (which was my favorite part of the show) Dr Normal introduced us to his alien “friend”, he ranted on his opinion of the work of Joss Whedon and then we talked about the sad, anger inducing, untimely end of the Cort and Fatboy show. SLL: Friday Night with Will & Fatboy

I can’t recall a show in recent history where there was more talking than this episode. Will Radik and Bobby “Fatboy” Roberts can talk. I mean really, I know this is a talk show but the mouthiness of the three of us combined made for not a single moment of on air silence. I believe, if we kept track of things like this, it would be a record.. which means I can’t wait to get them on the show again.

In theory the Tech Edition was all about Will’s project 7th Planet Picture Show, an MST3K inspired movie night. Fatboy Roberts and Ezra Caraeff will be joining Will This Sunday night at 8 PM at Mt. Tabor Theater to watch Despiser. Check out the show to find out more:

Afterhours, oh dear sweet afterhours. If I could tell you everything we discussed in this chit-chat filled 60 minutes of geektastic podcasting I would. Every bit. As we sat in the studio with Steven Walling of AboutUs Friday night I was amazed at the number of zingers he was able to throw in. I’m not going to quote any of them… but I can tell you that he delivered more than one line that caused Dr Normal to make a note so he could add something Steven said to a “best of” reel for later…

SLL: Martini Lesson for Matt Mullenweg

In the midst of a bustling (and fantastic) WordCamp Portland put on by Aaron Hockley and a fantastic host of volunteers we took the opportunity to talk with Matt Mullenweg, and since I never resist the urge to pass on a little knowledge we kick the interview off with a martini lesson. SLL: The Miracle in July… In September

Sometimes you happen upon something that gives you a little bit of a shiver down your spine, on Friday night we had the chance to talk to someone who is working on a project that does just that. We were joined in studio by Michelle Anderson (known to many of you as mediaChick) author of The Miracle in July and her lovely assistant Meagan Kate (MeaganKate to you) to talk about Michelle’s latest project. And then there was Afterhours. It was one of those nights that saw us derail in odd directions. Dr Normal had his skit, Meagan Kate did a reading, Michelle announced some fun stuff, I insisted it was time to break out the Helmut Cam and the studio audience… well they were a little wild.

SLL: Food Carts Portland

I learned a very important lesson on our most recent episode of SLL… I’m not cut out to do a food podcast. It isn’t that I don’t like the topic it’s that all that talk of food and eateries makes me so hungry I want to bolt out of my seat and find a tasty nosh. I managed to stay in my seat to talk with Brett of Food Carts Portland and Gregg of Whiffies and listening to all the talk of food carts, food cart blogging and food cart locations made my tummy rumble. I recommend that you listen to this show on a full happy tummy.
