I’m at 30 Hour Day — the 30 hour livestreaming telethon benefiting 3 PDX charities — up close and personal right now (well, at least for the first 12 hours or so). As part of the OurPDX sponsorship of #30HD, I’m pulling my Christmas tree stuff out of an eight-year deep storage to decorate the 30 Hour Day tree, bringing my menorah to light the candles for the last night of Hanukkah, and serving as Stage Manager for the first 8 hours of the telethon itself.

But it isn’t just about me. Or Cami Kaos or Rick Turoczy (the two intrepid co-hosts who’ll stay up the entire 30 hours). Or any of the rest of the talent, crew, volunteers or sponsors. It’s about doing good things for Free Geek, the Oregon Food Bank, and Toys for Tots.

And you have the most important role of all here, you know.

In afterhours things quickly derail. It’s one of those content light episodes of Afterhours, but word from the live chatroom is that it’s well worth watching. I’m not sure what they liked about it. Maybe the brief technical talk about our streaming situation, or the little bit of wine talk we had with Ryan. Maybe it was all the discussion of the rapidly upcoming 30 Hour Day. Could it have been that in order for us to all fit on camera I had to invite Crystal to join me in my chair? Nope. That wasn’t it. Whatever it was I hope you enjoy this latest edition of Afterhours.

On December 18th and 19th (that’s in just 17 days) Rick Turoczy of the Silicon Florist and I, Cami Kaos, will be presenting 30 hours of live streaming awesomeness for your viewing pleasure, and it’s all for a good cause.  30 Hour Day is a livestreaming telethon the likes of which the world has never seen and it’s happening right here in Portland.

In other words: We’ll be up and seeking to entertain the masses for 30 straight hours and the entire event will be broadcast on these friendly internets in order to raise awareness of and funds for a few important organizations that can use all our help.

Sounds crazy right?  That’s because it is a little crazy.  But we (along with all of the good folk volunteering their time and resources) are determined to turn our little bit of crazy into a great event for all the world to enjoy.  This is where you should be asking yourself,  Self, what is it that I can do to help?

You’re asking the right question.  The answer is simple:  Give us your awesome, your cool, your talented masses longing to be aired to a national audience.

Do you have a talent, an act, a band?  Know someone who does?  Head on over to our site and submit your act for the 30 Hour Day Variety Show.  This portion of the event will run from 10 AM to 6 PM Saturday December 19th and is designed to showcase some of the great acts that our city (and the surrounding area) has to offer.

So go ahead, stop on by and drop us a line.  Be part of the action.  Make this first of its kind event a part of your personal history by getting involved. Or at least tune and in watch us pull it all off.

Friday night we were joined in studio by Scott McCarty and the entire Locket2You team. While we chatted with Scott on the couch Miranda and MeaganKate kept everything in check from the sidelines.

A schtick was prepared a month ago and carried out in the first half of Afterhours, then there were the custom drinks I made for the occasion: The Locket, The Pocket, The Rocket and Big Purple. With the skit (featuring the voice talent of MeaganKate and Miranda) and drinks out of the way we got back to the business of afterhours and chatted our hour away.

With the holiday season fast approaching, you may have noticed we’re doing things a bit differently around SLL. We wanted to start celebrating early which is why this week we featured Locket2You (a great holiday gift solution, I’m just sayin) and next week we’ll be featuring some fantastic music with John and Clay. Then we’ll move on to gadgets with Brian M. Westbrook which will satisfy your craving for tech and give you a peek into what’s hot and techie for the holidays. Staying with that good for the holidays theme we’ll also be joined by Foodgeeks (get some holiday menu ideas) and Simler (because you need a new site to play on with all that Holiday downtime) in early December.

We’ll Round out the year with 30 Hour Day, a livestream telethon the likes of which the world has never seen, A Kaos family Christmas with my daddy, Daddy Kaos. Then we’ll kick off the new year with a review of 2009 and predictions for 2010 with Rick Turoczy. As you can see we’ve got a full plate for the next couple of months, I hope you’ll come along for the ride.

In Afterhours things got away from us a little, but before we got out of hand Curtis read his 512 Words or Fewer piece “The Wren and the Hen and the Men in the Pen”. Other than that (which was my favorite part of the show) Dr Normal introduced us to his alien “friend”, he ranted on his opinion of the work of Joss Whedon and then we talked about the sad, anger inducing, untimely end of the Cort and Fatboy show. I can’t recall a show in recent history where there was more talking than this episode. Will Radik and Bobby “Fatboy” Roberts can talk. I mean really, I know this is a talk show but the mouthiness of the three of us combined made for not a single moment of on air silence. I believe, if we kept track of things like this, it would be a record.. which means I can’t wait to get them on the show again.

In theory the Tech Edition was all about Will’s project 7th Planet Picture Show, an MST3K inspired movie night. Fatboy Roberts and Ezra Caraeff will be joining Will This Sunday night at 8 PM at Mt. Tabor Theater to watch Despiser. Check out the show to find out more:
