Stepping Into the Slow Lane

by Betsy Richter

It has been a Very Busy Summer for yours truly. Most days, the whiteboard on the refrigerator that tracks our household schedule is jam-packed full of planned activities: Summer camps for the girl, lists of chores for the teen, and plenty of, um, fun work stuff for me (including more than a few [...]

Fill ‘er Up?

by Cosmic Charlie

Is this the future of filling stations in Oregon?

Check out the massive plug-in located at SW 1st and Salmon, under the World Trade Center Complex.
Next time I pass by, I will look to see if there are plug-ins for wheelchairs and cell phones…

A Cleaner, Safer Wackenhut?

by Cosmic Charlie

No, I have not been hanging out with Wizardboots again. That happens Friday night.
But now that the provocative title has caught your eye, heh heh, allow me to burst the bubble. This is all about TriMet, downtown, and the folks who keep an eye on such things: Security guards.
Besides Portland Police and the Multnomah County [...]

For Rapid Transit, they Gallop…

by Aaron

Seen today on the transit mall… two mounted officers end up with a line of cars behind them at a slow walking pace as they mosey down SW 5th Avenue….

Pains, Trains and Automobiles

by Cosmic Charlie

Here at OurPDX, we are all TriMet, all the time. (Kidding. It just looks that way today.)
Coming May 24, downtown bus service will undergo massive changes. For the last two years, construction of the MAX Green Line and transit mall remodeling have had buses running along SW 3rd and 4th Avenue. In a couple of [...]

Instant Karma’s Gonna Get You

by Cosmic Charlie

I will preface this post with a disclaimer: I love TriMet and sing its praises here often. I’m grateful that, for about the price of two tanks of gas, I can commute all month. I meet lots of interesting people, and observe lots more. I love the time it gives me to ponder the universe, [...]

Livin’ the Low-Car Diet

by Jeremy Towsey-French

As the sun begins to creep over the mountains and spill down into our otherwise gray Pacific Northwest lives, many folks are dusting off their bicycles in hopes of enjoying another of Portland’s fantastic summers –via two wheels.
If the human-powered call of the road has you thinking about sun-drenched weekend cruises down stumptown’s tree-lined boulevards, [...]

Put ‘em out to Pasture

by Cosmic Charlie

As we’ve all been hearing, the bus system is due for a major shake-up in May, and and again in September. Schedules will change, MAX will be running into fresh territory, and a new fleet of buses will be popping up.
Holy shoes, May is next month. Is this year slipping away or what?
As new buses [...]

The Clinton Street Hideaway

by Cosmic Charlie

I’m up contemplating the universe. What else to do at 4:20 on a Sunday morning?
We at OurPDX tend to leave the weather reporting to the professionals, but how do you ignore the first warm, sunny day of the year? Vitamin D deficient, I was chomping at the bit to get out and bask in [...]

During this entire period, there will be no Red Line (Airport) trains between Gateway and the Airport. TriMet will have shuttle [...]
