Friday night we were joined by Ryan Snyder and Dawn Foster of our friendly local Shizzow!  We had a great time with them on the couch talking about Shizzow going global.  Listen to (or watch) the Tech Edition to find out more about Shizzow and get info about SXSWi!

Then we step into Afterhours… we managed to sneak in a little more talk about Shizzow and SXSWi but did you know that Ryan is a Sommelier?  We didn’t until Friday night, but Doc is always quick to make good use of our resources so we hopped right into a night of wine talking and a little tasting.

• Portland Transit Tips | Dave Knows Portland – I can attest to Dave's wisdom here (I have a 15 year old who is often obnoxious and/or loud, ugh):

  "If your bus goes by a high school or middle school, avoid riding when school is getting out. The kids are obnoxious and loud. I don’t mean this in a “you kids get off my lawn” sense. The kids really are obnoxious and loud and rude. Teenagers are, naturally, beginning to learn social etiquette and boundaries. They have a lot to learn. And your bus trip will be unpleasant if they are on the bus in large numbers."

• Spring is Showing Up Around the Edges | Rabbi David Kominsky – Some great spring photos from Rabbi David's walk to work. Pssst…Rabbi David: The "muppety" flowers look like witch hazel to me (anyone want to verify?), while the reddish buds are daphne, which will smell absolutely heavenly when they open up a bit more. Trust me on this one. Best. Spring. Scent. EVER!

Which ones of these things is not like the others?

Weeelll…if you’re past a certain age, you’ll remember some of those cartoon exhortations popping up on screens during the original mid-60’s Batman show.

But Shizzow has roared out of the Batcave and taken on a life of its own – it’s now the creation of four local PDX tech gurus, and it’s billed as a “location-based social web service that we built with the goal of helping you build quality relationships through face-to-face interaction.”

While the Shizzow service—in private beta now for PDX users—is currently web-based only, there are Big Plans Afoot. We’re talking API integration. Mobile interfaces. Using everything from phones to email to SMS to IMs to connect people to other people.

In real life, from real places.

So I can inform my friends using Shizzow that I’m currently at Green Dragon—and they’ll drop by if they’re in the area (especially if there’s a chance I might buy *them* a beer! Hey, it’s been known to happen…) Or a friend might call or IM me once he sees I’m at Uwajimaya—I could pick him up one or two items and save him a trip/gas.
